There was 67 years between Bambi and the shitty Bambi 2. Fact.

Anyway, Bambi facts aside. There's a hardcore house show and a horror punk show to talk about!

Day 4...

Jack Pitt is the singer in Dorian Gay. Jack writes the What Would Henry Rollins Do? fanzine. Jack also puts on occasional shows in his living room. Jack is a fucking champ.

Today was the second house show and was an all-dayer! I won't review each band individually as it kinda blurred into one, but definite stand outs were Dorian Gay, Cold Ones and Lonewolves. Also playing were Headcase, Hang the Bastard, Nothing Existed, William English and Hex.

Lots of stuff happened. Me and Joey both stage-dove off a fridge. Lots of people crowd surfed. Picture frames on the wall got smashed. The light bulb got kicked in. My mate Phil got knocked out, came too, and dove right back into the thick of things.

The day was a ton of fun, but there were some annoying points. Someone in particular was pissing me off me crowd-surfing and diving about basically every second. It was fun at first, but I really felt he overdid it. Then he lit a cigarette and tried to dive into people with it in his mouth. I don't wanna name the guy as I'm not here to "name and shame" people, but he pissed me off. The cigarette especially pissed me off as it was a very crammed, essentially air-less room, and he seemed oblivious to the obvious risks of sparking up a cigarette in the room. Someone easily could have got burnt (especially as he was jumping into people) and the house could have easily got burnt too (side note: is it "burnt" or "burned"? Or doesn't it matter?)

Anyway, rants aside it was a good day. Phil was fine after.

Day 5...

And so our 5-gigs-and-a-free-festival-in-5-days jaunt ended with a sparsely populated horror punk show at the Marquee. There must have been about 15 people there? Something like that anyway.

The gig was running late. Saigon Kiss and Gravedale High opened up. The Ruined were up next with bassist Ian on vocals as singer Shaun was in America with his other band (the rockstar bastard!) Ian rarely does backing vocals, and held it together superbly on lead vocals. Sometimes you could barely tell that it wasn't the usual guy doing it. Top marks. The Ruined were awesome as ever, Offspring-type punk (with an Offspring cover thrown in for good measure) with horror-themed lyrics.

Blitzkid headlined with Dr. Chud from Misfits on drums for this tour. I'd only ever heard one or two Blitzkid songs but liked them. Seeing them live though, their stuff seems more varied than I expected. I didn't realise they'd be so many slower songs, and such emotional content at times (such as songs about the bassist's mum dying of cancer, and a song about his girlfriend getting murdered, true story). I get the impression that the bassist writes the slower songs, and the guitarist writes the more rocking songs.

We left early as Claire had work the next morning, and I knew I was seeing Blitzkid twice at the weekend so wasn't bothered. Although it turns out that after we left they covered Disconnected by Face to Face. I was bummed, but hoped they'd play it at the other shows.

Overall, a good five days. If I had to pick a best band of the lot, it'd be hard to choose between Get Cape, Dave House and Cold Ones.

This song's about when girls masturbate they turn into werewolves, as we all know

Last night I played an MC iPod show. Usually MC iPod involves me being, well, the class clown on stage for 25 minutes whilst people look at me and laugh at me in a we're-laughing-with-you-because-we-think-you're-laughing-at-yourself kind of way. The set always involves comedy songs, topped off with a cover of the Fresh Prince theme song.

Yesterday I woke up in a bad mood. A really, really bad mood. I had no desire to play a show, let alone be the class clown yet again.

I have a repertoire of serious songs. Y'know, real songs! My whole second album is made up of serious songs, most of which I never play live as the crowds never want to hear it.

Yesterday I just said fuck it, and did a six-song set of bleak, depressing songs. The kind of things that Mike Scott would be proud of! Wearing all black, obviously! I also tried out a new gimmick (partially glommed from Guerilla Poubelle - check them out by the way, awesome French punk-hardcore) wherein I had sheets of paper stuck to the wall and drew a sketch for every track. I also stuck some sheets up near the crowd and encouraged them to also draw. My mates drew some things so that was cool.

Point is, it was the only time I've ever come off stage as MC iPod and felt I had any integrity left. True.

So yeah, I felt rather damn fine after that. It was nice to have an audience for some of the (in my opinion, anyway) better songs I've written.

If you're interested, the set was:
Sexual Kids: About people needed to deal with the fact that partners have likely done stuff before they were with you, likely starting at a young age.
At Me (2 Dead 2 Care): A rant about the public's views of me.
Heroin: Nature's Passtime: I knew a guy who did heroin. He died. True story.
Zombies: Horror-rap written for a movie soundtrack about zombies. I had to do this at a horror-punk show really!
Superficial: About venues closing down, usually due to bureaucratic reasons.
Frustrated (Part 2): Written when I was unemployed about, well, being unemployed.
After me was Gravedale High who were the same horror-punk-metal-heads they've always been!

Headliners were the suitably awesome Zombina and the Skeletones. Pop-horror-punk-ska-surf-rock I guess... Awesome. Awesome. Check them out if you get the chance.
