I think I've actually gained some weight...

...which is irrelevant to what I'm about to write about.

I used to be in a band called Dutch Boy. We were - for want of a better word - shit. That being said though, I still think we had a couple of good songs (namely Moving Home, Young Again and Volvic). Our biggest problems were rushing into things - i.e. playing gigs when we were nowhere near ready to. We had constant in-fighting and line-up changes which never helps.

Point is, I felt we had potential to be a lot better than we ever were. I'm not saying we would have changed the world, because we wouldn't. I just always felt frustrated that - through our own stupid choices - we never achieved the small amount that we could have; instead achieving, well, sod all.

The reason I'm thinking about Dutch Boy all of a sudden? I'm moving, as you probably know. Having spent the past 7 years in Norwich I will be spending the summer in Cambridge, before moving down South with Claire (as she's going back to uni). Every time I move, I'm always reminded of the aforementioned Dutch Boy song Moving Home.

What this means, in the short term, is that I currently live in a pile of boxes and dust. This is horrible. I also have no idea how I'm going to fit all of this a) in my friend Kelle's van and b) in my parents' house.

Being bogged down with moving is impeding my ability to enjoy things. I'm sure I would have enjoyed the gig last night more if my mind hadn't been pre-occupied with the fact that I have until Sunday to shove everything into a box, followed by a day-and-a-half of furious cleaning.

So, that being said, here's my not-particularly-enthusiastic review of last night's show:

Fletch Cadillac opened and would turn out to be the best band of the night. I hadn't seen them much recently, and was surprised that they were as tight as they were. They kept their set short and sweet (probably around 20 minutes, maybe 25).

Next up were The Culprits who just didn't do it for me. First impression? The seeming lack of stage presence by their singer. Not that I'm saying she had to bound about the venue, but she did just seem to stand there and not do much. That being said, they seemed tight enough and good at what they do (that being punk rock with more old-school leanings) but it just isn't my cup of tea.

Free The Paedos - aka Ollie Jugs doing spoken word - was next. Ollie's first spoken word gig made me a broken man. This, however, was awesome. Short and sweet and funny as fuck.

Wonk Unit didn't do it for me. On stage they acted like a mix of dickheads, and a poor attempt at Captain Everything. I'm sure they're not dickheads in real life, I just didn't like their on stage personas.

Headliners were ICH who I'd heard a lot about but never really heard. They were alright, good straight up punk rock. Nothing special, but good at what they do. During their set we all started to get text messages informing us of Michael Jackson's passing, swiftly followed by a memorial human pyramid.
